Behind the Labels #1 - Opening the can on beer labels

Welcome to the first post in our bi-weekly blog series on all things beer, labels and art!

As you might have noticed by now, it is our aim to celebrate the artists behind the beers and we have started this blog to showcase the creative, bold and strangely wonderful world of beer label design!

Whenever and however you got into beer, the chances are, in those early days, you were once been stood in front of a row of shelves adorned with a visually stimulating array of cans (and bottles!) not knowing where to start. We've all been there, trying to decipher the different breweries and beer styles, not quite knowing the difference between a Helles or a Pilsner. It may be safe to say that, at this point, the most enticing options were those with the eye-catching labels?

Well this is why Ale Artistry was created. Labels serve as the first interaction a person has with a beer. Not only just containing the relevant information on the beer's style, strength and makers but acting as miniature pieces of art which have been designed to tell a story about the beer inside. Just as much as we all love to show off our ratings and opinions on the latest hyped beer to drop, at Ale Artistry, we love to show off the creativity behind the craft. Our flagship product, The Art in Craft, is a collector's album designed to preserve and celebrate your favourite beer labels. It has 25 dedicated collection spaces alongside extras like Beer Label Bingo, a DIY design page and a short history of beer labels.

We want to turn casual sipping into creative collecting and add a new element to the craft beer experience by bringing people together for a love of the art. This blog will be an addition to this experience, where we tell the stories behind those labels with artist interviews, brewery spotlights and tips on how beer label collecting such as how to best peel a label.

So with this in mind, go down to your local bottleshop, brewery or pub, grab a can with a label that jumps out at you for whatever reason and when you're done drinking, start collecting with The Art in Craft!
